Needed resources to jump into .NET programming?

The Spring semester is almost over and during the break I was thinking on jumping into some .NET programming. I’m planning on porting my Java Sudoku game from a homework assignment over to a Windows application with a .NET graphical interface. Currently, I have Visual Studio 2008 with the .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and some knowledge of OOP concepts. What other resources, if any, do I need to jump into this, what language would be best to go into coming from a Java, Actionscript 3, PHP background, and what are some good quick start guides for the language? I could probably figure this out myself but it would be a waste of hours that could be spend programming. So thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out and thus save me quite a bit of time.
