I am new to php programming, and bought a book and have been learning php with MySQL. However MySQL is not my main goal………..I really want to learn php with Microsoft SQL Server R2 (MSSQL) however there where no books on that.

My question is, if anyone has a ‘ConnectDB’ script for MSSQL? So I can use php to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server Database.

You have to take into account that once you’re past midnight on Nov. 13, $difference will start returning negative numbers because $today will be greater than $bday.

So if the current date is between Nov. 13 and Dec 31, you need to increment $year by 1 so that it starts counting to your *next* birthday.

I have downloaded PDF Creator. Preferences PDF Writer. When I open Preferences. PDF Writer the User Default Folder Location box is checked. I click OK and nothing happens.

Any links of anything else I need to start PHP and step by step instructions would be great.
Do I need to get rid of PDF Creator?

You will need the following.

WAMP

http://www.wampserver.com/en/

AND

Notepad++

http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.1.html

And its the first link in green for notepad++.

WAMP is your server that you need for PHP. You code your PHP into Notepad++ and you save all your web files in the www folder which is located in your server .

start > computer > local disk c > wamp > www

All your web files should be saved in that folder.

And to run the files turn the server on.

start > (type)"wamp" press enter.

And finally open up your browser and type the following

localhost/index.php

index.php is what you should save your main page as.

basically this works but it doesn’t set the language properly it runs the script so I know it goes through the whole thing it just doesn’t set the value. Could anyone point out what I’m doing wrong here? I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

The problem is likely you are forcing the browser to reload , ie go back 1 in history, but you are not storing the new language in a manner that the browser can recall it. PHP does not store values between compiles without you forcing it to. Try using $_SESSION or cookies to store the new language so that the browser has a pointer to the new language. Without storing values in this manner, every time your server compiles your script all variables are cleared or resort to default.

session_start();
$_SESSION['lang'] = ‘English’;
Self::set_langauge(‘English’);

As a result every time you want to see what language is set you should refer to the session. Also don’t forget to set the default language in this manner.

this question revolves around the whole convention over configuration mindset. If you want to accomplish more for your site in less time you could use a framework. However, if you want the satisfaction of creating something on your own you would want to build from the ground up. In my experience I have always programmed everything on my own simply because I enjoy the satisfaction that comes along with using my own scripts.
